The History of e-cigs

A Brief History

The e-cigarette (e-cig) was invented by a Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik in Beijing, China.

Hon Lik (a smoker himself) invented the device after his father, a heavy smoker, died of lung cancer.

The company Hon Lik works for - Dragon Holdings Ltd - developed the device and changed their name to Ruyan which means “Resembling smoke”.

The device was first introduced to the domestic market in China in 2004.

Development of the initial 3 part devices proceeded and the various parts are now combined into a single 'cartomiser' (cartridge and vapouriser) and a power source (battery).  These devices have proven popular all over the world and are available in most countries
